Marat Gimaev and Alina Basyuk began their dance career together in 1999, in Moscow, Russia and quickly became IDSF Ten-Dance World Champions in 2001. Since then Marat and Alina have enjoyed much success in both their Amateur and Professional Dance careers, and have been an inspiration to many younger couples in Russia and all over the world.
Marat and Alina are:

- – First Russian couple to become Blackpool Under-21 Latin Finalists
- – First Russian couple to receive “Honorary Athletes of Russia” award from the Ministry of Sport
Marat and Alina also became:

- – Two time World Cup Amateur Standard Winners
- – Two time European Cup Amateur Standard Winners
- – Two time European Amateur Standard Vice-Champions
- – Four time Russian National Amateur Ten Dance Champions
- – Five time Russian National Amateur Standard Champions
- – World Games Finalists
- – British Open Rising- Star Professional Standard Champions
- – Medalists of all Major Championships including Blackpool, International, and UK Open
- – IDSF Grand Slam Standard Winners
Marat and Alina are also successful coaches, having trained World Ten Dance Amateur and Youth Champions. Both, Marat and Alina have a Bachelor Degree in Ballroom Dancing: Marat graduated as a “Teacher of Modern and Old-Time Ballroom Dancing” from the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts in 2003 while Alina graduated as a “Physical Culture and Sports Specialist” from the Russian State University of Physical Culture in 2000. Marat and Alina have recently moved to the United States and now represent the United States and Brooklyn DanceSport Club in international and domestic competitions.
